A “Trainwreck” you can laugh at

Amy Schumer and Bill Hader in "Trainwreck"

Amy Schumer and Bill Hader in “Trainwreck”

On television, Amy Schumer hurls sneaky backdoor strikes. In Trainwreck, she aims primarily above the waist.

For in this gender-reversed relationship comedy written by and starring Schumer and directed by Judd Apatow, it’s Amy (Schumer) who favors hookups and Aaron (Bill Hader) who wants commitment.
Is the movie funny? Yes. Is it as mordant as the ruthlessly funny sketch show, Inside Amy Schumer? Not by a long shot. But I liked it a lot. You can read my review here.

Not since Mae West has a woman on screen quite had Schumer’s sexual command. In the film she proves herself a worthy successor to Diane Keaton, Meg Ryan and Reese Witherspoon as her generation’s screwball singleton.

Your thoughts about Schumer? Her television show? Her attempt to refresh the romantic comedy?
