Bardolatry! Which Shakespeare update would Himself love best?
Although 450 years old this week, Shakespeare is forever new.
Wondering which movie update of the Bard’s work he would like the best? Would it be:
The Lion King, the animated update of Hamlet?
Scotland, PA, a fast-food restaurant version of Macbeth?
Forbidden Planet, an outer-space iteration of The Tempest?
10 Things I Hate About You, the high-school comedy based on The Taming of the Shrew?
My Own Private Idaho, the Pacific Northwest rendition of Henry IV?
She’s the Man, a soccer-mad rethink of The Twelfth Night?
O, the private-school update of Othello?
West Side Story? Catch My Soul? Deliver Us from Eva?
I enjoy them all. You? Your favorite(s)?
Which Shakespeare movie update do you think the Bard would best love?… http://t.co/rtjZXscGtw
In honor of his 450th, which movie update would Shakespeare love best? http://t.co/K2xOE3Sbwm
I like “Hamlet” with Ethan Hawke, a film by Michael Almereyda, set in modern NY.
I am not familiar with all of the above films.
Silvianna Goldsmith
I’d say Forbidden Planet only. It is grand, portentous and deep. Perhaps West Side Story, which is also great. None of the others.
West Side Story would suit his dramatic, romantic flair. Sorry for this but I still have very romantic memories of the Ziffarelli version of Romeo and Juliet.. On a humorous side Woody Allen’s version of MSND. Is It Happened One Night a qualifier it is still the greatest romantic comedy of all time but I don’t know that it had a Shakespeare connection.
Straight dramatic tragedy perhaps Ran.
I’m not that much of a internet reader to be honest but your blogs really nice, keep it up! I’ll go ahead and bookmark your website to come back later on. Many thanks
