Ruby Dee 1922–2014
She was an immortal who, alas, was mortal.
Improbably, she matured from a cute ingenue to a traffic-stopping beauty.
With their combined talent, intelligence and activism, she and her husband of 56 years (that would be the late Ossie Davis) opened a lot of closed doors on Broadway and off on the large screen and small.
She had an alto voice designed for inspiration.
She was America’s Giuletta Masina, a tiny woodland creature with big eyes and bigger talent.
Here are some thoughts on the prolific Ruby Dee. I’d like to hear yours.
