Which films would you program for an end-of-the-world film fest?

images-1I’d definitely program On the Beach and Dr. Strangelove. Signs, The Last Wave, Happy Accidents.

But if I really thought it were the end of the world, I’d rather watch Astaire/Rogers musicals, Preston Sturges comedies, Singin’ in the Rain.

You? What would you program?

Well, MELANCHOLIA and THE POSEIDEN ADVENTURE come first to mind…along with the craptacular ARMAGEDDON. I fondly remember (but never watched) the TV movie double feature FIRE! and FLOOD! The most disastrous of disaster films may be WHEN TIME RAN OUT…
But I’d watch THE QUIET EARTH was a good three people left on earth film. Or AIRPLANE! to go out laughing. Well, actually, come to think of it, THE CONCORDE…AIRPORT 79 is one of the funniest disaster films ever. I’d watch that.

    “Miracle Mile” – Definitely

  3. Dr. Strangelove was the first one that sprang to mind. No better way to go out than with the multiple mushroom clouds as the lyrics sing, “We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when.” Probably The Rules of the Game and Casablanca. His Girl Friday. Broadcast News. (500) Days of Summer. More than likely video footage from long ago of friends. I wouldn’t rule out foregoing films in favor of a marathon of a favorite TV show or two.

Repo Man, A Simple Man, The Day The Earth Caught Fire, Sideways, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Groundhog Day, The Big Lebowski

    Singin’ in the Rain

    Girl Crazy
    I Love Melvin
