kills both the appetite and brain cells.
PLAYING for KEEPS A charmless comedy about a former soccer star
(Gerard Butler) that alternates between the salacious and
family-friendly and ends up being inappropriate for both demographics.
ROCK of AGES Who knew it could take two hours to dramatize two lines
of “Don’t Stop Believing”? Unwanted: Dead or Alive.
WHAT to EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING: Made me long for the narrative
depth of VALENTINE’S DAY. It ain’t me, Baby.
Hi Carrie. We see far fewer pictures than you, but it’s one of my great pleasures with Jane. I’d say the worst we saw were Flight, which sounded promising, but was horrible, and Chernobyl Diaries, which was super-terrible, but in some ways a great deal better than Flight. Yesterday we saw Jack Reacher and had an unexpectedly good time. Curtis

Most overrated: Flight
Too many mediocre films this year, but the ones I hated Hated HATED:
MOONRISE KINGDOM (twee and overrated), THIS IS 40 (which I retitled THIS IS HELL) and TAKE THIS WALTZ (take this movie!), plus BROOKLYN BROTHERS BEAT THE BEST, CROOKED ARROWS, BUTTER, YOUR SISTER’S SISTER, TIM AND ERIC’S BILLION DOLLAR MOVIE, and dishonorable mention to BULLY, which was irresponsible and a complete missed opportunity. (Made me angry for all the wrong reasons).

I feel sorry for critics who are obligated to see everything. The five you list smelled bad from a distance so I didn’t have to suffer them. I don’t go to Twilight movies. I didn’t see John Carter or Battleship.
Of course there’s a lot of subjectivity, as your respondents prove: Moonrise Kingdom for me fell apart in the third act, but wasn’t one of the worst things of the year; I think a lot of it has to do with expectations.
I really disliked This is 40, based on its provenance and cast. I thought Hunger Games was a mess. I thought Promised Land was well-meaning but stillborn. I liked Silver Linings Playbook and Cloud Atlas but can’t really argue with people who hated them. The movies I recommend to people are Perks of Being a Wallflower and Ruby Sparks. Movies just aren’t that exciting to talk about these days.
1) The Master -hardly 2) Dark Shadows- To think I ran to the theater almost like I did back in the day to watch that mess. 3) Rock of Ages-Good thing I saw the play. 5) Tyler Perry as -Alex Cross you ain’t.Morgan Freeman is.Please stick with Madea .6) With the exception of “Django” Leo DiCaprio was a major fail this year.7) “Snow White and The Huntsman” Please keep that poisonous hefer Kristian Stewart away from the camera. She managed to make Charlize look bad. 8) Most of the pretensious movies playing at the Ritz. And I liked Flight …a lot
