No matter how many times I watch them, I still get shudders of pleasure from the Halloween sequence in Vincente Minnelli’s Meet Me in St. Louis (1945), where Margaret O’Brien is terrified by the dark and her own sudden powers to intimidate:

Likewise the Halloween sequence in E.T.: The Extraterrestrial (1982), where Elliot and his brother hide the alien under a sheet and E.T. takes on someone his own size:

One is about being afraid in the dark, the other fear in daylight.
