Nine for IX
Venus VS, Ava Duvernay’s smashing portrait of Venus Williams valor on the court and her off-court fight for pay parity at Wimbledon, debuts July 2 at 8pm on ESPN. It kicks off the cable channel’s “Nine for IX” series focusing on the impact of women in sports, each directed by a woman who has had an impact on films. Among the others profiled in the series are hoops star Cheryl Swoopes, ice princess Katarina Witt and pioneer sports journalists Melissa Ludtke, Claire Smith and Lesley Visser.
